4-Days Chimpanzees Conservation Safari


Here you will visit Kibale National Park, Semuliki National Park, KAFRED and Amabereganyinamwiru cultural site in Fort portal and participate in activities like Tree planting with pearls of Uganda and a project called “save river Mpanga”, Chimpanzee tracking and conservation experience, Hot springs experience, nature walks, hill climbing, crater lakes viewing among others.

Kibale national park is found in the western and accessed through the town of Fort portal. The park adjoins Queen Elizabeth national park and is a very popular ecotourism destination on the countries safari circuit. The park is best known for its population of habituated chimpanzees. There are many other species of primates including Baboons, Red Columbus monkey, LHoest’s monkey, Black and white colobus monkeys that are seen on guided nature walk in the forest.

The park can be visted throughout the year and covers an area of 776 sqaure kms with many different ecosystems in the within its boundaries.it is primarily endowed with rainforest cover where forest Elephant’s roam. These animals are smaller in size than their counterparts in the savannah. Other species include Buffalos, giant forest hog,and several species of secretive antelope. There are over 335 species of birds where the extremely rare Green Breasted pitta would be regarded the highlight of any visit. Butterflies are very numerous in the forest with excellent knowledgeable guides to point them out for you.

The forest has a network of trails for chimpanzee tracking, bird watching and nature walks. Bird watching activities are also conducted at Bigodi wetland sanctuary on the border of the forest.

Arrival day

Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide from Ecovic Tours and Travel Uganda, who will then transfer you to your Guest house/ Hotel/Lodge a stone throw away from Entebbe international airport for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 1
Kampala- Kibale National park (Fort Portal Tourism City)

On this day, you will have your breakfast and embark on a 4-5hr drive to Kibale National park with several stops along the way before reaching Fort Portal town and the Park. You will arrive in the afternoon and have your lunch at one of the Lodges/Hotels/Guest House. You will then tour Fort Portal Tourism city in the afternoon before checking in to the Lodge/Hotel/Guest House for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2
: Chimpanzee tracking-Kibale National Park

On this day, you will wake up early and have breakfast before moving to Kibale National Park for morning Chimpanzee tracking and conservation experience at Kanyanchu visitors centre. Here you will also be able to see abundant wildlife including; baboons, red tailed Colubus monkeys, vervet monkeys, black and white Colubus monkey, various bird species, butterflies and many more. You will have lunch then move to a cultural site called KAFRED for nature walk, bird and other wildlife viewing before returning to the Hotel/Lodge/Camp for relaxation, dinner and our overnight stay.

Day 3
Nature walk and Conservation Experience

On this day, you will wake up early and have breakfast before joining the communities of Kibale in planting indigenous trees to promote conservation, promote conservation awareness, and participate in tree nurseries preparation among others. You will return for lunch and then move to a cultural site called amabere ga nyina mwiru for cave viewing, hill climbing, crater lakes viewing before returning checking in to one of the Lodge/Guest House/Hotel in Fort Portal for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4
Fort Portal-Entebbe international airport (Kampala)

On this day, you will wake up at leisure for breakfast and then embark on an exciting conservation road trip to Entebbe with a stopover at Mubende town for our lunch. You will arrive at Entebbe international airport in the evening to catch up with your flight back home.

What to bring

  • Wear stout shoes or walking boots suitable for steep muddy slopes.
  • Gardening gloves are excellent in the forest when pulling on vines and nettles and during tree planting activity.
  • Carry rain gear, sunscreen lotion, a hat (as the weather is unpredictable) and insect repellent.
  • Porters are available to hire when need a rise.


Rules and Regulations when you are with Chimpanzees

  • Keep your voice down or be quiet.
  • Don’t point or wave your arms because it can be a threat.
  • If approached by Chimpanzees, move backwards slowly to keep a 5m distance
  • Do not use the flash on the camera as this could cause gorillas to charge.
  • Do not mimic
