Itinerary for 7-Days Mountain Gorillas, Queen Elizabeth & Murchison Falls National Park Safari

Day 1
To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On this day, you will wake up early and have your breakfast then transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park while enjoying a scenic drive that allows you to view the beautiful and varied country side. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda on the rim of the Rift Valley. More notably, this “impenetrable forest” protects an predictable 320 population of mountain gorillas – approximately half of the population in the world, among which are a number of habituated groups, that can be tracked by visitors.

You will arrive in the evening and check in at Buhoma Community Rest Camp for relaxation, dinner and overnight. Buhoma Community Rest Camp gives outdoor enthusiasts a taste of safari-style living and is an excellent base camp for gorilla trekking, as well as observing the many endemic bird species that inhabit the region.

Day 2
Mountain Gorillas Tracking & Batwa Community Visit

After your breakfast, you will hike to the Park headquarters just meters from the Lodge for briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority guides before transferring to the starting point for Mountain Gorillas tracking. Your tracking experience will be an exciting, yet challenging, journey along forested slopes, tangled vines, thick vegetation & bamboo forests before you reach the territory of these gentle giants. The visit will give you a glimpse into the life of a Mountain Gorilla family & if you are lucky enough to gaze into the eyes of a Mountain Gorilla. Visiting Mountain Gorillas will take you 3 hours to a full day trek through the forest since Mountain Gorillas move from one place to another every day looking for food & water.

After Mountain Gorillas tracking, you will visit the Batwa community for them to take you through their traditions like traditional dance, beer making, setting fire among others (optional) before returning to the lodge for relaxation, dinner & overnight stay.

Day 3
To Queen Elizabeth National Park with a stopover at Ishasha Sector for tree climbing lions tracking

On this day, you will wake up early and have your breakfast then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park while enjoying a scenic drive that allows you to view the beautiful and varied country side. Queen Elizabeth National Park lies around Kasese region with sprawling savannah, shady, humid forest sparking lakes and fertile wetlands making it ideal habitant for classic big games, ten primates species including chimpanzees and over 600 birds around channel with its banks lined in with hippos, buffalos and elephants among others.

You will stop for lunch and game drive at Ishasha Sector where you will be likely to view tree climbing lions among other species.

You will arrive in the late afternoon/evening and check in to Pumba Safari Cottages for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay. Pumba Safari Cottages is a great Lodge by Queen Elizabeth national park-located in a prime wildlife area. The lodge is located in Kyambura overlooking Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 4
Game Drive & Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel

On this day, your safari breakfasts will be served before the day breaks so that you can start your morning game drive as the sun comes up. Sunrise is the best time for wildlife spotting as animals tend to be the most active during the “golden hours”, when the first rays of sunshine come to rest on the savannah. Elephants, buffalo and several species of antelope are some of the characters you may come across today, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a lion or leopard.

You will return for lunch and later in the day when the sun is high in the sky and the animals make their way to the river for a drink, you will head to Kazinga Channel for an exciting boat safari. You will spot more hippos today than you can possibly imagine. Herds of elephants and buffalo will also be wandering down to the shoreline to bath in the cooling waters. It will be a wonderful experience.

After the boat safari, you will return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5
To Murchison Falls National Park

On this day, you will have your breakfast and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. The drive will take you through the western arm of the Rift Valley where you will also be rewarded with splendid views of the countryside with several stopovers en-route for lunch, landscape and beautiful sceneries viewing.

You will arrive in the evening and check in at Fort Murchison Lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay. The lodge is set in a beautiful surrounding and looks out on the majestic Albert Nile that will add to your safari experience.

Day 6
Game Drive & Boat Safari on Victoria Nile

On this day, your safari breakfast will be served before the day breaks so that you can start your morning game drive as the sun comes up. Sunrise is the best time for wildlife spotting as animals tend to be the most active during the “golden hours”, when the first rays of sunshine come to rest on the savannah. Elephants, buffalo and several species of antelope are some of the characters you may come across today, & if you’re lucky, you may even spot a lion or leopard.

You will return for lunch in the afternoon & go for a 3-hours boat safari upstream on the Victoria Nile to the falls where you will pass by breathtaking scenery, as well as many crocodiles, hundreds of hippos, buffaloes, water birds, monkeys & other animals that come down to the Nile. The boat will drop you near the waterfall for your hike (1-1.5 hours) up to the top of the falls (optional at additional cost of $15 pp).

After your boat safari, you will return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7
Top of the Falls Walk, White Rhino tracking & Departure

On this day, you will enjoy your last sunrise and breakfast in this beautiful National Park in Uganda with a walk to top of Murchison Falls for about 30 minutes to 1 hour before transferring to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for White Rhinos tracking.

After your White Rhino tracking, your guide will drive you across the beautiful sceneries back to Entebbe & drop you off at Entebbe International Airport 3 hours before your departure time. Please make sure your flight departure is after 4 pm at the very earliest. For flights departing before 4 pm you will need an extra night in Entebbe, which we can help arrange for you at an additional cost.
