Itinerary for 16-Days Uganda's Expedition Safari

Day 1
To Mgahinga National Park

On this day, you will wake up early and have your breakfast then transfer to Mgahinga National Park while enjoying a scenic drive that allows you to view the beautiful and varied country side. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is one of the luckiest and smallest parks in Uganda where the world’s critically endangered mountain gorillas are found and it happens to be part of the Virunga massif where more than 480 mountain gorillas are known to be living.

You will arrive in the evening and check in at Golden Monkey Guest House for relaxation, dinner and overnight. Golden Monkey Guest House is an accommodation that provides an excellent base for trekking the mountain gorillas, golden monkey and volcano hiking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Day 2
Mountain Gorillas Tracking & Batwa Community Visit

After your breakfast, you will hike to the Park headquarters just meters from the Lodge for briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority guides before transferring to the starting point for Mountain Gorillas tracking. Your tracking experience will be an exciting, yet challenging, journey along forested slopes, tangled vines, thick vegetation & bamboo forests before you reach the territory of these gentle giants. The visit will give you a glimpse into the life of a Mountain Gorilla family & if you are lucky enough to gaze into the eyes of a Mountain Gorilla. Visiting Mountain Gorillas will take you 3 hours to a full day trek through the forest since Mountain Gorillas move from one place to another every day looking for food & water.

After your Mountain Gorillas tracking, you will complete your day with a visit to the Batwa Community for them to take you through their traditions of local beer making, local dance, traditional ways of setting fire among others before returning to the Lodge.

Day 3
Golden Monkey Tracking & Canoe Ride on Lake Bunyonyi

Just like gorilla tracking, you will go for golden monkey tracking starting with pre-tracking briefing at the Park headquarters. Hiking through the forests to sight the golden monkeys is not so strenuous like gorilla trekking because golden monkeys live in lower areas, so you will not track for more than 3 hours. When you encounter the golden monkey family, you will be given one hour to spend with them (to take photographs and observe their behavior). With this activity, there is no minimum number of visitors and the age limit is 12 years.

In the afternoon after your lunch, you will go for canoe ride on a scenic lake Bunyonyi. This lake is the only one were you can ride a canoe to visit all the 29 islands on this lake including the floating Island and the punishment Island where the young girls who got pregnant before marriage would be dumped and left to die.

After the canoe ride, you will check in to Bunyonyi Overland Resort for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
